Stetson's Birth Story

This is crazy long...be prepared

Well from my last post you can seen that i went into labor early. and this birth story is far from normal. i was given a steroid shot that monday night i went into the hospital to develop his lungs, and was also given medicine to stop my contractions to give the steroid time to set in. i was given the second dose of the steroid tuesday morning, and they kept me on the non-contracting medicine until wednesday night. well that thursday morning i went into labor, so they took me down to the labor and delivery room, i was down there for i think 7 or 8 hours and then my contractions stopped, so i went back up to my room. hung out watched the olympics (i don't know what i would have done if i hadn't had the olympics to watch, i would have gone crazy) then friday afternoon i went into labor yet again, and was wheeled down not in just a wheel chair but my entire bed down to labor and delivery. at this point i was so exhausted cause my contractions kept going for another 7 or 8 hours. i wasn't progressing, but yet the doctors didn't want to push me into full labor cause they wanted to keep him in as long as they possibly could (at this point my water was still just ruptured and hadn't fully broken, and from ultrasounds i actually still had a normal amount of fluid) so this time they gave me a lovely drug through my i.v. and it was magical. it set in 5 seconds after they gave it to me, and all i could do was look at trav and say "i feel so good, this stuff is amazing" they said it would only last about an hour, and sure enough it was gone at exactly an hour, i asked for more so i could keep sleeping and getting my energy back, so they gave me more, again it was AMAZING, this time i told trav if i could be addicted to a drug it would be this one because it made me feel so GOOD. i slept another hour and it wore off, i asked for one more dose they said sure and i said YES. slept another hour and by the time i woke up again my contractions had stopped, so i was sent back up to my room. saturday was pretty un eventful trav and i hung out that night went to sleep and were hoping to keep that baby in. well sunday morning at about 2 am my contractions started again, i had also passed some unpleasant things, i called the nurse in, and she took a look and within 1 minute there were 7 nurses in my room. one trying to get a new i.v. in me, one getting a baby monitor on me, and the others i don't even remember. i went back down to labor and delivery, the doctor came in and said well it looks like this baby just wants to meet you, so she decided to brake my water, i was already dilated to a 4 so she said i could get my epidural at anytime. i did get my epidural right away and i was terrified, but it honestly didn't hurt at all. then they gave me some pitocin to get my contractions closer together. since i already had my epidural i slept most of the time, the other time i was so nausea and kept throwing up, i didn't like anyone to touch my legs because it felt so awful when they did. at around 3:30 p.m i felt a lot of pressure the nurse checked me and i was fully dilated. since he was going to be early and they new he would need to be in the nicu, i actually had to deliver in the operating room because they actually had a direct window to the nicu. so at this point i said goodbye to everyone because Trav would be the only one allowed back in the operating room area. we got back to the room everything was set up and i started pushing, about 5 minutes in the doctor actually had to go deliver another lady immediately, so i was left there for about 35 to 40 minutes, at this point i was able to rest and decend. which now i am grateful for because i think if i hadn't i would have had to push a lot longer then i needed or wanted to. when the doctor came back i ended up pushing for about 30 minutes and our little man was delivered at 5:02 p.m. when they put him on my stomach all i wanted to do was love and kiss him, he was there for about 15 second and then was whisked away to the nicu. i was so exhausted that i was almost asleep when the doctors were finishing up everything else. and my lovely husband was so curious about everything that the doctors actually gave him a tour of the placenta, literally he kept asking questions and they gave him a whole anatomy lesson about how the placenta attaches and detaches and works and everything. and he was all up in my business even after wanted to know and see everything they were doing. at least i don't have a man that will pass out during all of this, ha. so in the nicu no one is allowed back there from between 6:30-7:30 p.m. because of shift change. and i had to be in labor and delivery for an hour after birth, so by the time i got out of the operating room and had to stay for an hour it was already 6:30 so i had to wait until 7:30 to go see my sweet babe. when 7:30 rolled around i was wheeled to the nicu had to scrub in and was back to see my little man.

Ready or not...

Here he comes..... Let's just say the entrance that this baby is making into this world is a lot more challenging then we ever thought would be. i'll start at the beginning, this last saturday i got up did my normal routine and went to one of my friends baby showers was feeling ok but by the time my mom and i got home around noon i wasn't feeling so good, i was really hot and couldn't seem to cool down, thought that i was dehydrated, i then started to have some slight cramping, so i took that day super easy.  The next day on sunday Trav and i stayed home and did nothing again because i was still having some slight cramping.  On monday morning i got up and did my usual routine and headed to work, on my way to work i called my doctors office to let them know what was going on i heard back from them at 9:30 and the nurse wanted me to go back home, drink lots and lots of water not get out of bed at all except to go to the bathroom and to get food.  I did all of thee above and by 4:30 that afternoon they had gone away except i would get one when i got up to use the restroom.  the nurse told me if they start up constant again or if anything else changed i needed to head to labor and delivery and get checked out.  well something happened 20 minutes later that i don't think you would want any details on, and i knew that i had to head in.  on my way i called trav and told him to meet me at the hospital and i met my mom at her house and she drove me up to the hospital.  when i got to labor and delivery the lady that checked me in was not nice at all, she asked me what was going on and i let her know everything and of coarse her next question, in a really snippy voice, is this your first baby? um yes i said, and her response was, oh. like this is your first you have no idea what is going on. by the time she got me back to a room i was in tears.  yes people this is my first baby and i have no idea what your body does because guess what ive never experience it before.  luckily all of the nurse staff after that has been absolutely so nice and amazing.  i was there for a couple of hours, doing some blood work and some swabs to see if i had any infection going on (i did have to get an i.v. and i was so nervous but it totally didn't hurt) :) they then decided to check my cervix, i didn't think anything would be different, but i was dilated to a plus one and 70 percent a-faced, when the nurse said that trav and i looked at each other so surprised, and that happened at about maybe 9:00 pm monday night. then they were just letting me sleep and monitoring the baby, all my labs came back saying that i wasn't showing any sign of infection but that they were just going to keep me over night to keep an eye on me.  for what ever reason the monitor would pick up when i was having a contraction, and from 3 to 4 am that morning i was timing my contractions and they were coming every 3 to 4 minutes for that hour so i called the nurse she decided to check me at i didn't think anything would be different but i had dilated to almost a 4, and again trav and i were so dang surprised, and this time the swab she took shoed that i was leaking amniotic fluid, so my water hadn't broke but it was ruptured slightly somewhere, and when that happened the plan totally changed.  the doctor came in and said that since my water had ruptured there is such a high rick of infection for me and the baby, and her words were the next time i leave this hospital i will be a mom.  they gave me some medicine to stop the contractions for two days to let the steroids they gave me to develop the babies lungs to have a better effect, but after tonight (wednesday) they will take me off of the medicine to stop the contractions and whatever my body wants to do they will just let happen, but if my body can hold off and keep this baby in until i'm 34 weeks which is two more weeks that is best case scenario, and if by some chance i can make it to 34 weeks they will end up taking the baby then anyway because at that point there is a better chance for him outside of the womb then inside.  can i tell you these hospital beds are horrible and i have cried a couple times because i just want to go home.  but i know this is where i need to be to let out little guy grow as much more as he can inside me.  they say that babies that are born at 32 weeks do really really well. he will need to be in the nicu for as long until his heart and lungs and everything looks good, which they say usually only takes a week or two but then after that the way he will be able to go home is if he can feed from a bottle or nursing and gain weight without struggling.  the doctor came in this morning and said back when he was a doctor at a hospital in ucla 50 years ago babies that were born at 32 weeks had a 50/50 chance of making it, but now with how medicine and technology has become so amazing he has a 99.9 percent chance of being just fine. obviously there is always that chance that something could happen and he could be here a long time, but i am keeping my hopes high that he will be super strong and won't have to be in the nicu for very long.  we have received so much love and support from everyone and i can't thank you all  enough for that. i will try and keep things updated on her, sorry this was such a long post but a lot of people wanted to know what happened. and there you have it.

20 down 20 to go...

Man oh man i can NOT believe that i am now half way through my pregnancy.  It has definitely had its ups and downs. the first 14 weeks i had non-stop all day nausea, lucky there was nothing coming up with that, just the nausea so i guess i can't really complain. but now instead of nausea it is just awesome heartburn, luckily tums can usually take care of it for a little bit. when i was 15 weeks we went into fetalfoto and found out that we are having a little BOY! the whole time i totally thought we were having a little girl, everyone thought it was a little girl, and the morning of the 15 week ultra sound i had a dream right before i woke up that i saw a little girl and her name would be Logan. so that whole day i just new it was a little girl. But low and behold there was something growing in between those little baby legs, and i couldn't be more excited that we are having a little boy. So hopefully that little baby girl Logan is just waiting up in heaven for her turn to come into this family.  Trav and i are so so excited to welcome our first baby into this world, to become parents, and to love and teach this little guy. I will provide you with a couple of pictures, even though i absolutely hate hate pictures of myself,  but i figure i've got to document my journey. hope you enjoy.

{my man}

my man is pretty spectacular! now many of you may think this story to be silly (on my part) but Travis is 100% my knight in shining armor! so this little story occurred at about 5:30 this morning. and if you know me I have really weird/crazy dreams most of the time! so this morning I had a dream, that short story was about me, my mom, and sister, and someone had broken into our house and was torturing us! so I woke up just balling my eyes out, was so sick to my stomach I thought I was going to throw up, and had this horrible feeling that someone was in the house! not sure if I was just freaking out or not or if I should wake trav up and have him check the house! well I ended up waking him up! poor guy woke up to a frantic wife in tears!!! and he jumped right up and checked every inch of our house. and of coarse didn't find a single thing!!

as he came back to bed I just kept telling him I'm sorry I'm so scared and woke him up for no reason, but he was still being so sweet to me and still was telling me I was ok!

Travis is such an amazing person! not is he only good to me in our times of happiness, I know he will always be there for me, like this morning, whenever I am scared and afraid!

I am so so very grateful for him!

I love you!!
